Yellow Fever Vaccination Requirements for Tanzania

Who Needs the Yellow Fever Vaccine?
🟢 Travelers from Non-Risk Countries
If you’re arriving from countries not considered Yellow Fever risk zones — such as the USA, Canada, Europe, or parts of Asia — you do not need to show a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate when entering Tanzania.
🟡 Travelers from Risk (Endemic) Countries
If you’re coming from or have recently been in a Yellow Fever endemic country, you’ll need to present a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate on arrival.
Transit Through Risk Areas
You don’t need a certificate even if you pass through a Yellow Fever endemic country as long as:

Your airport layover is less than 12 hours

You don’t leave the airport transit area
When to Get Vaccinated

Get the vaccine at least 10 days before your arrival in Tanzania

Only one dose is required for lifetime protection
Exemptions
You may be exempt from vaccination if you are:

A child under 1 year

An adult over 60 years

Have a documented medical exemption
If you experience symptoms like fever, headache, or joint pain, seek medical attention promptly.
Traveling Between Mainland & Zanzibar
No vaccine certificate is needed when traveling:

From Mainland Tanzania to Zanzibar

From Zanzibar to Mainland Tanzania
Zanzibar is part of the United Republic of Tanzania — no additional health checks apply.
Important to Know
If you’re required to present a certificate and fail to do so, Tanzanian authorities may:

Refuse you entry

Vaccinate you at the airport

Place you under health observation for up to 10 days
