Tanzania Visa & Passport
Do I Need a Passport?
Yes — a valid passport is required for entry into Tanzania. It must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay and should have at least two blank facing pages (three are recommended). Tourist visas are valid for three months from the date of issue. We recommend checking your passport early to avoid last-minute issues.
Visa Requirements
You’re responsible for securing any required visas before your trip. Visa rules depend on your nationality, and in some cases, processing may take up to six weeks. Make sure to confirm your country’s requirements in advance.
Visa on Arrival
Good news — travelers from many countries can get a visa on arrival at Tanzanian airports. This is quick and convenient for most European and American passport holders.
However, not all nationalities qualify for this option. If you’re unsure, check your eligibility before departure.
E-Visa (Online Application)
Tanzania offers an online visa application, available to many nationalities. The process usually takes up to 10 business days.
Most visitors will apply for an Ordinary Visa
U.S. citizens must apply for a Multiple Entry Visa
Fees: $50 USD for most; $100 USD for U.S. citizens
You can apply and view full guidelines via the official Tanzanian visa portal.
Referral Visa
Some travelers require a Referral Visa, which must be applied for at least 2 months before your trip. These travelers are not eligible for visa on arrival, and processing may take longer.
You’ll need to submit an introductory letter with your application.
Serengeti Cheers will be happy to provide this letter after verifying your eligibility and reviewing your documents.
